Computer help at home for older adults
A slow laptop, a printer that will not connect, or a new device that still needs setting up: sometimes it is easier to have someone look at it with you at home. Home computer help can suit older adults, as well as anyone who would rather not carry a device elsewhere.
When is a home visit useful?
A visit is especially useful when the issue depends on the home or the devices around it. Examples include Wi-Fi dropping in one room, a printer that will not connect to the network, or several devices that need to work together. A home visit can also help with the initial setup of a new device.
Remote support is often enough for email settings, software errors and many slow-laptop problems. If a part needs replacing or the computer will not start, appointment-only drop-off in Evergem is usually more practical. The right option depends on the issue, not on your age.
How to prepare for an appointment
- Note what happens and when the issue started.
- Have the device, its charger and any error message ready.
- Make sure you can access the device and a nearby power outlet.
- If possible, back up important files beforehand.
- Keep passwords and verification codes private. You can enter them yourself when needed.
A family member or trusted person is welcome to join. Mention the main things you want to resolve beforehand so the session can focus on them.
What does home computer help cost?
DeskCare uses the same session rates for home visits and remote support: €35 for 30 minutes, €65 for 60 minutes and €90 for 90 minutes. Travel within Evergem is free; outside Evergem it is €0.50 per kilometre round trip. An extra 30 minutes can be arranged for €30.
You receive a proposal based on your description first. See the computer help at home in Evergem and Ghent page for the rates and practical details.
Help at a comfortable pace
You do not need to diagnose the technical issue yourself. A short explanation in everyday language is enough to decide whether a home visit, remote session or drop-off is the best first step. Describe what you need help with and include a few times that suit you.
Not sure which support route fits? DeskCare helps you choose the right next step.
